Wake County Overview
|Downtown Raleigh||Downtown Cary|
In 2003 the city council approved a project to transform Fayetteville Street back to a vehicle highway. In 2006, the transformation was completed and the downtown area began to change. A catalyst of the redevelopment was the new convention center. The 500,000 square foot convention center opened in September 2008. Another major addition to the skyline was the 33-story RBC Plaza. This blue glass building is the tallest in Raleigh. It is headquarters for the U.S. subsidiary of Royal Bank of Canada, as well as having retail spaces and condominiums. New restaurants, bars and shops have popped up throughout the downtown areas. Even with all this new growth Raleigh will never lose its charm!
